To answer your question, there are a variety of labeling schemes that purport to tell you something about the conditions under which egg-producing hens were raised.       Another option, if it’s available to you, would be to make connection to a local producer (maybe via a farmers market) who you could talk to or whose farm you could visit to see first-hand how the chickens are treated.
